It was a great weekend for the Camden Creative Arts Jazz Band as they competed in the 44th annual Berklee College of Music High School Jazz Festival. The Big Band took 1st place in large ensemble group 6 and 2nd place for small combo group 4. Arnetta Johnson won the superior musician award for large ensemble group 6 as well as the Judges Choice Award. Daniel Spearman won a outstanding soloist award for large ensemble group 6. Kendall Haskins won the Judges Choice award for small combo group 4. Congratulations. The band has a busy week ahead with 3 competitions starting with State preliminaries on Tuesday March 13th at Steinert High School where they will be on stage at about 7:05pm. On Friday the 16th they will be at Lower Merion High School and preform at about 7:40pm. On Saturday the 17th they will be at Pennsbury High School and on stage at about 7:55pm. Good luck guys.

Camden Creative Arts Jazz Band competed in "Jazz at the Brook" on Friday night at Overbrook High School in Pine Hill N.J.The band had 2 outstanding soloist with awards going to Arnetta Johnson and Daniel Spearman for their performances.They also received partial summer band camp scholarships along with Lakeim Shaw and Charles Bell. The band scored a rating of superior and best section awards going to the trombone and rhythm sections as well as best overall band of the festival. Fantastic job band. Next week the band is heading to Boston Ma. to compete in Berklee College of Music's 44th annual High School Jazz Festival on Saturday March 10th. Good luck guys.
The Camden Creative Arts Jazz Band was at the Archbishop Ryan High School Jazz Festival in Philadelphia Pa. on Saturday evening and received a rating of superior and claimed best section awards for saxes,trumpets and rhythm. Arnetta Johnson and Daniel Spearman both won best soloist awards. The band will be traveling to Overbrook High School in Pine Hill N.J. to compete in "Jazz at the Brook" on Friday March 2nd. The band is scheduled to perform at 7:25 pm. Great job band.
The Camden Creative Arts Jazz Band had a great week ending with their first festival of the year at Upper Darby High School. The band received a superior rating for their performance. They also received best rhythm section and best trumpet section awards. Arnetta Johnson won a best solo award and Daniel Spearman recieved a honorable mention award for his solo. The week started off with great news that the Creative Arts Jazz Band was selected as 1 of the 12 finalist in the High School Big Band Division for the 2012 Next Generation Jazz Festival in Monterey Ca. Congratulations on being selected and on the great job the band did at the Upper Darby Festival, keep up the good work!

Brunch on Saturday. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves and had a good time. Special thanks to our guest performers Tru-Elite and Art of Faith for coming to minster to us thru music and dance. Thank you so much for bringing the presence of the LORD to the brunch. Also we would like to thank the young ladies and men from Lincoln University for helping out with all functions of the brunch, without their help, the event would not have ran so smoothly. To all the parents and teachers that spent time promoting the event and selling ads and tickets, thank you. Our band student appreciate all the love and support you give. We would also like to thank the jazz band members who help run the program. Thank you all and may GOD continue to bless each and everyone of you. The Jazz Boosters would like to thank all that attended the bragging rights Old Skool vs. New Skool fundraiser basketball game today. It was a lot of fun. We especially like to thank the Iota Pi Chapter of Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority for all the help and service they provided for the event. Now to the highlights of the games. Game 1 was the New Skool Band vs. the New Skool Alumni with the New Skool Band winning 23-14. The New Skool Band was led by Kendall Haskins with 9 pts and Rashad Boyd with 6 pts. The New Skool Alumni was lead by Larry and Sadayiah Galloway with 6pts each. The 2nd game was a barn burner with the Old Skool winning by a close one 22-21. The Old Skool was lead but Mr. C Jones with 6 pts and Mr, D with 4pts and 4 fouls. Mr. D is a Libra so he likes to staybalance. The New Skoool Band was lead by Siani Blactson with
10pts and Kendall Haskins with 5pts. Let's do it again next year. |
