Camden Creative Arts Jazz Band finished off a fantastic week by winning the Cavalcade of Bands New Jersey Regional Yankee Championship Saturday night at the Lakeside Middle School Performing Arts Center in Millville N.J.. They received a rating of superior with honors and won best trumpet and rhythm section awards. Arnetta Johnson and Daniel Spearman won outstanding soloist awards.On Wednesday the band traveled up to the Sawmill Cafe in Seaside Park N.J. to compete in The Music Spectacular where they won best trombone and rhythm section awards and Arnetta Johnson won a outstanding solo award. The band was named best overall band for the festival.The best part of the week was our first annual jazz festival featuring Eastern High School, Lower Merion High School and Pennsbury High school Jazz Bands in competition. We also had a exhibition from Dr. Brimm Medical Arts High School's jazz band. Our very special guest from Ohio was the Oberlin Jazz Ensemble who also provided a small clinic for all the instrumental students as well as a great performance on the stage. What am I talking about, All the bands were great!!!!
Band Boosters for Creative Arts and the Camden Creative Arts Jazz Band would like to thank all the bands that attended our first jazz festival and for making it a great success. Congratulations to the 2012 Cavalcade of Bands Yankee Division Champion, the Camden Creative Arts Jazz Band!!!! Last night at Unionville High School in Kennett Square PA, the top 11 bands from the Cavalcade circuit put on a great night of Jazz. It was the second year in a row that Camden Creative Arts Jazz Band was named the Dick Scott Award winner. The rhythm section won a best section award and Arnetta Johnson was named Outstanding soloist. Next Friday we will host our 1st Annual Jazz Festival featuring the Oberlin Jazz Ensemble from Ohio. Also the award winning bands from Lower Merion (PA) High School, Pennsbury (PA) High School and Eastern High School. There also will be a performance from the Brimm Medical Arts High School Jazz Combo. It's going to be a great night of music. On Saturday night, the band will be in Millville NJ to compete in the Cavalcade of Bands New Jersey Regional Championship at Lakeside Middle School. The Little Jazz Giants will be opening up the show at 6:30pm and Camden Creative Arts Jazz Band will be on stage about 9:50pm.
The Camden Creative Arts Jazz Band represented the city of Camden, their school, all the east coast jazz bands and family and friends very well at the Next Generation Jazz Festival at the Monterey Jazz Festival in California. They finished tied for fourth among 12 finalist. Great job guys. Arnetta Johnson was named the top soloist which came with a 50% scholarship for the Berklee Collage of Music Summer program.The band did make quite of few fans while at the festival due to their performance which included the 2012 Artist in Residence Ambrose Akinmusire. Congratulations band, we are so proud of you. Next up is the Cavalcade of Bands Yankee Championship at Unionville High School on April 14th. Competition starts at 6pm with the band scheduled to be on stage at about 9:20pm. Best of luck.
