Camden Creative Arts Jazz Band completed the regular jazz season this weekend while traveling with the Little Jazz Giants to Shalick High School on Friday and Kingsway High School on Saturday. It was the first time out for The Little Jazz Giants this season and they received a excellent rating for their performance at Shalick. The Creative Arts Jazz Band received a rating of superior while winning all the section awards. Best soloist awards went to Daniel Spearman and Arnetta Johnson. At the Kingsway Jazz Festival the Little Jazz Giants receive a middle school rating of outstanding and Lavar Concepcion won a honorable mention solo award. Congrats. The high school band got a rating of superior and won best section awards in trumpets and rhythm. Charles Bell won a honorable mention solo award and outstanding solo awards went to Arnetta Johnson and Daniel Spearman. Great job guys. Next week the Camden Creative Arts Jazz Band will be in Monterey Ca. to compete in the Next Generation Jazz Festival. All the best in Monterey.

This past Friday and Saturday night the Camden Creative Arts Jazz Band competed in the Lower Merion High School and Pennsbury High School's Jazz festivals. Friday at Lower Merion, the band received a rating of superior for their performance as well best section awards for the rhythm and trombone sections. Arnetta Johnson won a outstanding soloist award with Daniel Spearman wining a honorable mention award for his solo. The band finished off a very busy week at the Pennsbury High School Jazz Festival by receiving a rating of superior with the trumpet section being named best trumpets for the night. A outstanding soloist award was given to Lakeim Shaw for his performance. Congrats Lakeim. The evening's best soloist and winner of $100 (CHA-CHING!!!) went to Arnetta Johnson, congratulations Arnetta. This week the band will travel to Centerton N.J. to compete in the Schalick Jazz Festival with a performance time of about 8:05pm. Also The Little Jazz Giants will be performing at Schalick. They open up the festival at 6:00pm. On Saturday, both bands will travel to Swedsboro N.J. where The Little Jazz Giants will be on stage at about 5:14pm and the Camden Creative Arts Jazz Band up on stage at about 8:43pm. The band traveled to Steinert High School in Hamilton N.J. to compete in the NJAJE State Preliminaries and received a Gold Rating for their performance. The Trombone section won a best section award and Arnetta Johnson and Daniel Spearman won outstanding solo awards. Great job .
It was a great weekend for the Camden Creative Arts Jazz Band as they competed in the 44th annual Berklee College of Music High School Jazz Festival. The Big Band took 1st place in large ensemble group 6 and 2nd place for small combo group 4. Arnetta Johnson won the superior musician award for large ensemble group 6 as well as the Judges Choice Award. Daniel Spearman won a outstanding soloist award for large ensemble group 6. Kendall Haskins won the Judges Choice award for small combo group 4. Congratulations. The band has a busy week ahead with 3 competitions starting with State preliminaries on Tuesday March 13th at Steinert High School where they will be on stage at about 7:05pm. On Friday the 16th they will be at Lower Merion High School and preform at about 7:40pm. On Saturday the 17th they will be at Pennsbury High School and on stage at about 7:55pm. Good luck guys.
Camden Creative Arts Jazz Band competed in "Jazz at the Brook" on Friday night at Overbrook High School in Pine Hill N.J.The band had 2 outstanding soloist with awards going to Arnetta Johnson and Daniel Spearman for their performances.They also received partial summer band camp scholarships along with Lakeim Shaw and Charles Bell. The band scored a rating of superior and best section awards going to the trombone and rhythm sections as well as best overall band of the festival. Fantastic job band. Next week the band is heading to Boston Ma. to compete in Berklee College of Music's 44th annual High School Jazz Festival on Saturday March 10th. Good luck guys.
