New Jersey Student Marches to His Own Tune Into the Ivy League.
Mr. Sims is senior class president at Creative Arts Morgan Village Academy, a performing arts school. Wearing a navy blue tie—though the school uniform doesn’t require it—he juggles marching band, jazz band, acting in plays and his new business, selling ice tea on campus. When his cellphone broke last summer, he skipped fixing it to spend money on his trumpet.Polite and outgoing, Mr. Sims quotes the personal-finance best seller “Rich Dad, Poor Dad,” about the value of taking risks. Next fall Joshua Sims, a trumpet player, will go to Cornell University. He was accepted this month after applying early decision. Although he is one of the rare 18-year-olds without a cellphone, and didn’t post his news on social media, everyone at his school seemed to know it within hours. (His mother had something to do with that.)

Because of their amazing talent Creative Arts Jazz Band of Camden NJ has become the first jazz band in the United States to be among the 15 selected contestants in the First Class of the International Big Band Competition 2017 on Saturday the 10th of June in Hoofddorp, the Netherlands.
